OVERVIEW OF OPERATION :

The BOC-2000 is equipped with a load transducer that measures the friction force generated by a stationary ball contacting the surface of a rotating cylinder when performing the ASTM-D6078 Test Method.  A portion of the rotating cylinder is immersed in the test fluid inside the Test Fuel Tank.  The temperature of the Test Fuel Tank Assembly is controlled, as well as the relative humidity of the air that is circulated into and above the test fluid at a precise rate.  The load is manipulated during a series of tests, until a certain friction force is exceeded, indicating scuffing has occurred.  It is recommended that friction force output also go to a chart recorder.  A Load Cell Calibration Weight Set is included as standard equipment in order for the operator to verify accuracy of the Load Cell readings.  When performing the ASTM-D5001 Test Method the load transducer is not needed and is easily disconnected.  The ASTM-D5001 Test Method measures the actual wear scar size generated on the ball by the friction between the ball and rotating cylinder.  The parameters for both of the ASTM Test Methods can easily be met when using the BOC-2000.  The BOC-2000 is also currently being used as a research tool for other more viscous lubricants when equipped with the electrically heated Fuel Test Tank (BOC-219H) in order to perform lubricants testing at elevated temperatures.
